This self-guided online course will teach you how to safely and effectively fly an ArduPilot-powered multicopter UAV using the main manual flight modes provided by ArduCopter. The course combines self-guided theoretical lessons with hands-on simulated training exercises to provide you with a well-rounded learning experience.  This course was developed in collaboration with and is certified by the ArduPilot Project, and includes expert tips and tricks on how to best use the ArduPilot flight control system. Upon completion of the course, students receive an official completion certificate.


Note: This course assumes the student is proficient at flying multicopters, and focuses on understanding the particulars of ArduCopter flight modes. For students looking to learn the practical skills of flying a multicopter, please visit our Manual Piloting of Multirotor UAVs Course.

What You Will Learn

  • Learn the knowledge and skills to safely and effectively use the 3 basic manual multicopter flight modes offered by ArduCopter: Stabilize, Alt Hold, and Loiter.

  • SIMNET Academy and ArduPilot Project certificate of completion awarded at the end of the course
  • The purchase of this course includes access to the SIMNET Simulator platform for 6 months or 15 hours of simulation time.  This is sufficient to complete the course, and any remaining time can be used for free-flight simulation within the SIMNET Simulator platform.   If you wish to continue using SIMNET Simulator after this period, you may choose to purchase a subscription through the pricing page.



  • This course is geared towards understanding the workings and distinctions of each of the ArduCopter basic manual flight modes, rather than teaching the skills of flying a multicopter. It is assumed that the student is already proficient at flying a multicopter. If you have no experience flying multicopters, it is recommended that you take the Manual Piloting of Multirotor UAVs Course before this one.
